He has successfully appealed circuit court and administrative decisions, including obtaining a victory before the Iowa Supreme Court and defeating an opponent's petition for certiorari before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Jacobson was selected as a Wisconsin Super Lawyer in 2005. At that time, he also served as president of an eleven-lawyer firm in La Crosse. He has served as president of Midwest Environmental Advocates, a public interest law firm based in Madison, Wis. Mr. Jacobson served on the WI-DNR Stewardship Advisory Council (2007-2011), the WI-DNR Citizens Advisory Council (Stewardship Access) (2008), and the LABA/LCBA Construction Industry ADR Program Committee (2000-2003). Also, he has worked as an organizational and economic development consultant, land trust executive director, and dot-com entrepreneur. Additionally, he is a Major in the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary (Civil Air Patrol), where he has served as Mission Pilot, Squadron Legal Officer, and Assistant Wing Legal Officer. In 2014, Mr. Jacobson received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Film for the environmental film Mysteries of the Driftless. He is licensed to practice law in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. He earned a Juris Doctoris degree from Marquette University Law School in 1992 and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Beloit College in 1989.
