According to Minnesota state troopers, the car holding the three women was headed west on Highway 44, but had come to a stop in the lane when it was hit from behind by a pick-up truck just shortly before 6 p.m.
The pick-up was driven by a Decorah man, 79.
After the crash, the 55-year-old woman and the 18-year-old woman were flow by helicopter to Gundersen Lutheran.
The other two occupants of the car were taken to the hospital by ambulance; the 25-year-old woman was reported to have minor injuries and the man, 28, had injuries described by a media source as non-life-threatening.
The driver of the pick-up reportedly suffered no injuries in the crash.
