About 100 miles north of La Crosse, two people lost their lives in a fiery, head-on collision in Pierce County.
Sheriff's deputies said they were notified of a collision on Highway 63 at County Road Y just before 10 on Saturday night.
When officers arrived, they discovered two vehicles entirely engulfed in flames.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation said the head-on collision occurred when the driver of a 2003 Lincoln Aviator SUV tried to make a left turn from the highway onto the county road, crossing directly in the path of an oncoming 2003 Ford F-150 pick-up truck.
The driver of the SUV and a passenger in the pick-up were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Ford was taken to a hospital with undetermined injuries.
The driver of the SUV was a Red Wing, Minnesota, man, 22 years old. The driver of the Ford is a Bay City, Wisconsin, man, 25. The passenger killed in the crash was a Red Wing woman, 30.
An investigation into the fatal accident continues, law enforcement officials told media outlets.
In an unrelated incident, a 20-year-old man was killed when a Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Deputy responding to a call crashed into his car in the town of Eden.
The deputy was responding to the call at about nine at night when the Fond du Lac man's car pulled into the path of the squad car.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene; the deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
A police spokesperson said it is not yet clear if the deputy had turned on his police lights and siren prior to the crash.
