Wisconsin tractor-trailer accident injures 3

On June 7, a tractor-trailer rear-ended a truck on Interstate 94 in the town of Garfield, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol. Three people sustained minor injuries in the truck accident. The collision happened when the tractor-trailer driver reportedly looked away from the road while he was reaching for an item. When he looked up, he was too close to the truck ahead. Unable to stop in time, he rear-ended the truck near mile marker 91.

The three occupants of the truck were treated and released at a nearby hospital. According to the WSP, the driver of the semi was charged with inattentive driving. He was not injured in the accident. Both vehicles needed to be towed from the scene.

The three people who were injured in this accident might be entitled to compensation if they choose to pursue a claim against the inattentive semi driver. Compensation yielded by such a claim is intended to cover expenses for medical treatment and damage to property such as their truck. A personal injury attorney might be able to make an argument on their behalf based on the fact that the driver admitted to looking away from the road. Since he was also issued a citation, that may support the plaintiff's case.

Since the three people only suffered minor injuries and the driver admitted to being at fault, this might be a case where negotiation could work. Rather than enduring a lengthy court case, the lawyers for both parties might be able to negotiate a settlement that is satisfactory to both sides. To make certain that the settlement amount is adequate, the lawyer may work with the plaintiffs in advance of the negotiation to arrive at an amount. If the negotiation process does not work, then the case might go to trial.
