Wisconsin hit-and-run driver charged in pedestrian accident

It’s hard to imagine causing a car accident and then leaving the scene without checking to make sure the occupants of the other vehicle are okay. Yet sadly there are those who engage in this kind of behavior. In the state of Wisconsin, it is considered a crime to leave the scene of a car accident in which you were involved. In addition, if someone was injured in the accident and the person who caused it leaves, he or she could be sentenced to jail.

A 56-year-old man who was delivering newspapers on his tricycle on January 25 was hit from behind by a drunk driver from Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Although the man became stuck in the windshield of the vehicle, the drunk driver was not deterred. He continued on to his home without stopping. Even when he arrived at his destination, he did not help the man, but instead just walked away from the vehicle. The injured man was eventually able to get out and traveled on foot for about a block before he was found by police.

The 20-year-old drunk driver was charged with four felony charges that include reckless endangerment and causing hit-and-run injuries in the pedestrian accident. He was also charged with misdemeanors of causing injury by drunk driving and hit-and-run.

If you have been involved in an accident that was caused by a hit-and-run driver, you may wish to speak with a personal injury attorney. A lawyer can advise you on your case and may be able to help you receive the compensation to which you are entitled.
