Serving Injured And Disabled Clients In Minnesota and Wisconsin

If you have been diagnosed with PTSD, this post is for you

When you think about the receipt of Social Security disability benefits, you may consider someone with a chronic physical ailment that prevents them from keeping a consistent job. However, there are a number of Americans suffering from mental impairments that prevent them from doing the same. Indeed, many people diagnosed with depression may be receiving benefits, but many others suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may be eligible for benefits as well.

Unfortunately, the process of obtaining Social Security disability benefits can be long and tedious. The Social Security Administration is known for its epic appeals backlog. It is estimated that 900,000 cases exist, and the backlog is not going to get better anytime soon. Because of the long wait times, many people who are denied on their initial benefits petition may feel like giving up; especially if they are not represented by legal counsel.

The good news is that if you are represented by an experienced disability attorney, you have a counselor and an advocate who can help you gather the correct evidence to advance your claim. Obtaining a full medical history that includes treatment regimens and thorough assessments so that a reviewer (or an administrative law judge) can decide your case quickly and easily in your favor.

So if you have been diagnosed with PTSD, and are applying for Social Security disability benefits, do not get discourage, and more importantly, do not give up. Talk about your situation with an experienced disability lawyer so that you can understand your rights and options.
