Options for family members who lose loved ones in truck accidents

Wisconsin highways are often cluttered with traffic and many different types of vehicles. The more vehicles that share the road, the higher the chances are of a collision taking place. Truck accidents, in particular, often have devastating results. One such tragedy recently occurred that ended in two fatalities.

It was just before 9 a.m. on a recent Friday when the terrible crash took place. Apparently, a retired dentist, age 69, and his wife, who was a former school teacher, were traveling together. The couple was riding in a sport utility vehicle, when it was struck by a massive tractor-trailer.

A 27-year-old driver was behind the wheel of the massive truck. A spokesman from the local sheriff's office said law enforcement believed that the truck driver had failed to stop at an intersection. Sadly, the man and his wife were both killed in the horrific crash.

As of the Monday after the accident, no criminal charges had been filed against the truck driver. However, an active investigation remained ongoing in the incident; so it is possible that charges may be filed at a later date. Wisconsin law allows immediate family members who survive fatally injured victims of truck accidents to pursue justice on the behalves of their loved ones by filing wrongful death claims in civil court. To begin the process, one would typically discuss an individual incident with an experienced personal injury attorney to obtain help in identifying all possible sources of liability and assessing the situation to determine a maximum amount of damages before filing the claim.
