Memorial weekend accidents injure six in Vernon County

Vernon County south of La Crosse includes the hills of Wildcat Mountain State Park in the east, the hills and bluffs near the Mississippi River in the west and farmland in the center. It was on a straight farmland road in the center of Vernon County that a car with two young women and two teenagers went airborne on the crest of a knoll.

The Memorial Day weekend rollover car accident injured the 22-year-old driver and her three passengers. Also injured in a weekend crash were two motorcyclists who were travelling together when one struck the other one and both of them crashed.

According to news sources, the 22-year-old driver was travelling on Old Line Road near Cut-A Cross Road when the car was described as going airborne. Although it was not mentioned in the news report, one could imagine that speed would need to be involved for a car to vertically leave the road. When the car landed, the 22-year-old lost control and crashed off the road into a ditch, rolling the car in the process.

The 22-year-old was air-lifted to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center where she was reportedly in critical condition. A 19-year-old passenger was seriously injured, and also taken to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. Her injuries were described as non life-threatening. A 14-year-old and 17-year-old, sharing the same last name as the 19-year-old, were treated and released from Vernon Memorial Healthcare. All of those in the car were from rural Norwalk.

The second reported accident that day involved two friends on motorcycles. A 20-year-old was slowing down on Highway 56 to make a turn onto Newton Road, when his 21-year-old friend rear-ended him. Apparently the 21-year-old did not notice the slow down and both men lost control of their bikes. Both men sustained non life-threatening injuries.

Whenever a car crash or motorcycle accident is caused by someone else's negligence, the injured party or parties can sue to obtain compensation for damages including pain and suffering. In this case, the 22-year-old driver of the car and the 21-year-old motorcyclist who rear-ended his friend could be held liable for personal injury damages.
