Two drivers crash on winding Wisconsin road

Wisconsin 35 is a wonderful road to drive. Also called the Great River Road, it follows the Mississippi River and winds its way through small towns and between bluffs. Generation Xers on their motorcycles, baby boomers in their convertibles and the elderly in their sedans can all be seen enjoying the drive and the view. It may be tempting to take one's eye off the road.

Two drivers, one of them approaching 90 years old, were in a head-on car collision on Wisconsin 35 when the southbound driver crossed the center line and struck the northbound driver.

According to news sources, the car accident took place shortly before 5:30 p.m. on a Monday. The crash site was on Wisconsin 35 in Crawford County, south of La Crosse and immediately north of Wisconsin 83 near DeSoto.

The 89-year-old driver from Iowa is the driver that crossed the center line. He had an 80-year-old passenger with him, and both were taken to hospitals in La Crosse with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

The driver of the other car, a woman from Arlington, Iowa, was also injured with non-life-threatening injuries, and was also transported to a La Crosse area hospital.

Whether it was due to age or some other factor, the 89-year-old seems to be at fault, or negligent, if he crossed the center line as described by police. In that case, both of the injured women could hold the man liable for their personal injuries and obtain compensation for damages including pain and suffering.

The 89-year-old driver and his 80-year-old passenger share the same last name, and so a civil lawsuit may not result. The second driver is presumed to be a stranger and could follow through with litigation in civil court.
