Semi truck driver killed in rollover accident

When a car and a semi truck are in an accident, it is typically the driver and passengers in the car that are seriously injured. The weight disparity is simply too much and fatalities are often the result.

Recently, it was the car that caused the accident near Caledonia, Wisconsin, and the semi truck driver who was seriously injured. The truck accident was fatal for the truck driver and the driver of the car suffered minor injuries.

According to news sources, the accident took place on a Saturday afternoon when a woman from Milwaukee allegedly pulled out in front of a tractor trailer. The 45-year-old truck driver, from Menomonie Falls, swerved to avoid running over the car, and instead went into a ditch and rolled over.

When the first responders arrived on the scene, the truck driver was still alert and speaking. He was airlifted to a hospital with arm fractures, a head laceration and internal injuries. He died shortly after arriving at the hospital. The driver of the car suffered a laceration.

Truck driving is listed as one of the 10 most dangerous professions. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 61 percent of fatal crashes occurred on rural roads such as this particular accident, and about 26 percent occurred on Interstate highways. A rollover like this one happens in only five percent of the fatal accidents involving heavy trucks.

News sources reported that the woman pulled out in front of the truck, causing the rollover. If her negligence caused the fatal accident, the family of the truck driver can hold the Milwaukee woman liable for the truck driver's wrongful death and obtain compensation for their loss.
