Wisconsin company cited for safety issues

A metals maker has received several citations for alleged safety violations at one of its foundries in Wisconsin. Such violations could result in a worker suffering a work injury or even worse. The company has not responded to requests for a comment. They could face financial penalties in excess of $50,000.

The citations are against Grede Holdings LLC, a company that is located out of the state. However, the violations were found in Wisconsin and involve several issues that could have serious repercussions if not properly addressed. The facility's specialty is gray iron and they produce sand castings.

OSHA inspectors found nine violations at the foundry. They were cited for missing safety features on equipment and for standing water located near electrical equipment. Such violations could result in electrocution, a work injury that could very well end in a fatality. The foundry where the violations occurred has approximately 3,000 workers.

Every Wisconsin worker has the right to work in a place free of dangerous conditions. When safety issues are not properly addressed and corrected, a work injury could result. An employee could suffer lost wages or even permanent disability.

Workers' compensation is a benefit offered to employees who sustain injuries on the job, but addressing these safety violations may force a company to prevent them in the first place. Employers have a duty to ensure a safe workplace for their employees, and when this does not occur, workers may have the right to seek legal help to seek the benefits that the law allows.
