Five Wisconsin car accident victims sent to area hospitals

Car crashes recently sent five people to Monroe County hospitals in a single weekend, and reckless or inattentive driving may have caused at least one of the wrecks. Car accidents, especially those featuring rear-end collisions, can cause personal injuries that may affect people's lives for years to come. Victims of this type of auto accident may be entitled to compensation for their injuries.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, a man from out of state rear-ended another vehicle while driving a pickup truck on Highway 21 in La Grange on the afternoon of Nov. 30. The pickup driver reportedly dropped his lighter and bent over to pick it up. Failing to stop, he collided with the car in front of him.

The pickup driver apparently suffered no injuries in the crash, but three people from the vehicle that was hit were taken to the hospital. The car's driver, a man from South Carolina, and his two female passengers went to Tomah Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Police ticketed the pickup driver for inattentive driving. They also ticketed the driver and one passenger from the vehicle that was hit because they were not wearing seat belts.

Two other weekend accidents occurred on Dec. 1. Authorities say one involved a man driving an all terrain vehicle on a trail in Lincoln. They say he swerved off a trail and hit a mailbox after he was temporarily blinded by the lights from oncoming cars. In the other incident, a car driven by a 17-year-old boy from Sparta hit and injured a 29-year-old pedestrian who was walking his dog.

When negligent or distracted drivers cause car accidents, any victims of the wrecks have the right to take legal action. Anyone who suffers personal injury after an auto accident should investigate their rights regarding compensation for pain and suffering, lost wages and medical expenses.
