Southern Wisconsin collision injures 4

Those who drive recklessly or under the influence of drugs and alcohol are not only endangering themselves but also creating unnecessary risks for others. Every day, people are injured or killed in car accidents caused by negligent or intoxicated drivers. Anyone who is a victim of a drunk driving accident may be entitled to financial compensation under the law.

On Dec. 4, four people were injured in a two-car collision in Beloit, Wisconsin. Police say that at about 4:50 a.m., a 40-year-old man was driving west on a Beloit street. His 6-year-old daughter was a passenger in the vehicle. As he crossed an intersection, his car was struck from the cross street by a vehicle travelling at high speed. After the collision, the second vehicle left the road, ran through a yard and came to rest against a house.

Information from the police says that the driver of the first car and his daughter both suffered minor injuries. The 22-year-old driver of the second vehicle was injured, and his passenger, a 17-year-old girl, was left in serious condition. Beloit Fire Department rescuers had to free occupants from both vehicles, and the scene took some three hours to clear.

Investigators are attributing the crash to both excessive speed and intoxication. Officials say the 22-year-old driver will be charged with causing injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Additional charges may follow depending on the outcome of the investigation.

Injuries inflicted by reckless or drunk drivers are a completely avoidable cause of pain and loss. Those who have suffered injury or lost loved ones because of the actions of such drivers should investigate their legal options regarding obtaining compensation.
