Number of fatal car accidents rose across Wisconsin in 2012

Fatal vehicle accidents can leave families not knowing where to turn or how to proceed. But when another party's negligence leads to a fatal car accident, families need to know that legal remedies are available in the form of a wrongful death lawsuit.

Many people throughout Wisconsin are already aware of the impact that a wrongful death can have on survivors and loved ones. Over 600 people were killed in vehicle accidents on the state's roadways in 2012. The four years prior to this all saw fewer deaths for the same cause per year, giving the state its first four-year run of fewer than 600 fatalities per annum since 1927.

The director of the Wisconsin State Patrol's Bureau of Transportation Safety noted that mild weather in 2012 may have been a significant factor in the number of fatalities on the state's roads. The number of passenger deaths was also seen as a key element, as many passengers were ejected from vehicles and died as a result.

When a loved one is lost in such an accident, family members are left with a sense of profound loss, as well as financial troubles from medical expenses or funeral costs. Those who have lost a family member due to negligence on the part of another driver should seek to understand their legal rights to compensation.

Holding the responsible party accountable won't bring back a deceased loved one, but many people do find some measure of solace in seeing justice served.
