Lake Geneva man killed in pickup-semi crash

The majority of truck drivers operate and maintain their vehicles responsibly with a concern for drivers of smaller vehicles. Of course, that isn't true of all truck drivers, and when truck driver negligence results in the injury or death of another person, the victim or his or her family will have grounds for a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit. A recent truck accident in Wisconsin illustrates the tragic devastation that can result from a truck accident.

Sheriff's deputies in Walworth County responded to a crash on Highway 11 in Darien. They found that a pickup truck and a large truck used to haul milk had violently collided, and the pickup driver, a Lake Geneva man, was deceased. Police say the 44-year-old appeared to have died instantly upon impact. The other driver, a 31-year-old man from Brooklyn, Wisconsin, did not seem to be injured.

The crash was so devastating undoubtedly because the semi truck hit the pickup directly on the driver's side. Investigators believe snow may have been a factor that caused the pickup driver to lose control of his vehicle, which slid over the center line and into oncoming traffic.

Wisconsin residents should keep in mind that truck accident investigations involve unique evidence issues, such as the fact that truck drivers are supposed to maintain a log book. Commercial trucks may also have black boxes that record issues such as braking and speed, and these matters are often crucial in wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits. Investigators' response time is also essential in these cases because evidence can disappear as time passes.
