Wisconsin work injuries: Man dies in potato farm truck accident

Very few of us ever expect that we'll suffer a fatal accident while in the workplace. Unfortunately, however, deadly work injuries happen every year in Wisconsin and across the nation. These accidents can often leave surviving family members financially strapped for money to pay necessary funeral expenses and having to deal with an unexpected loss in income. For that reason, Wisconsin law allows certain surviving family members to file for workers' compensation death benefits in some cases.

The family of a worker who died in a truck accident at a Wisconsin potato farm may find themselves facing this possibility in the future. The 26-year-old worker suffered fatal injuries after falling off a semi-truck that he was performing duties on at the time. After he landed on the ground, the man was run over by the truck's trailer, including its landing gear.

As a result of the injuries he suffered, the worker died at the scene of the accident. Reports indicate that the federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the fatal incident. It is too soon to tell what contributing factors their investigation may uncover.

Regardless of those results, however, the slain worker's relatives may be eligible to apply for Wisconsin workers' compensation death benefits. These benefits could help alleviate economic hardship that the family could suffer from the man's unexpected death. Relatives of those who suffer fatal work injuries may be able to recoup final funeral expenses along with lost wages that could even include future income that workers would otherwise have been able to earn.
