Violent dog bites toddler in the face

A Wisconsin toddler was attacked Wednesday night by his family's adopted pit bill. The unfortunate event happened on the child's kitchen floor as he enjoyed a treat. A representative from the local police department reported that the dog had bitten the 15 month old boy in the face in an effort to take the child's cookie. The toddler's mother and her boyfriend were in the home at the time of the dog attack.

The dog had been adopted by the victim's family after being removed from an abusive home. The family had witnessed that the dog was aggressive toward children and adults alike. An animal control report from 2009 revealed that the dog had bitten it's owner on the hand, causing the 54-year-old woman to receive stitches. Other residents in the area add that the street has suffered more acts of violence by this dog and others in the past.

The owner of the violent animal has surrendered it to the Wisconsin Humane Society Countryside Campus, where the dog will be put to sleep. The little boy underwent surgery at Children's Hospital for his animal bite, and his father reports that he is recovering as expected.

Unfortunately, there is no way to completely control the behavior of all animals, but there are professionals who may be able to help doctors minimize the amount of loss and suffering. Personal injury attorneys may help to determine if the animal owner is at fault and if the victim has a right to sue for medical expenses, pain and suffering, or other such losses. Personal injury lawyers could represent animal bite victims in court in an effort to obtain the appropriate compensation.
