Wisconsin drunk driver runs stop sign, hits ambulance

When 911 is called in Wisconsin, emergency personnel may respond to the call by sending an ambulance and the appropriate medical professionals to help anyone who is injured. Within the ambulance, the injured may be treated and stabilized until they reach the hospital. For some injuries, time is of the utmost important, and if the ambulance is in a car crash on the way to the hospital, it may make a bad situation much worse. If a drunk driver is the cause of the accident, the unfair situation may devastate the injured and his or her family members.

As an ambulance returned from a call with a driver and two Emergency Medical Technicians inside the vehicle, it was struck by a car that traveled through a stop sign without stopping. Although only minor injuries were reported for all involved in the accident, law enforcement officials believe the driver of the car was drunk when the accident occurred.

All people inside the ambulance were transported for medical care after the ambulance toppled onto its side and slid down the road, and the driver of the car was arrested for OWI after law enforcement arrived. His wife was also in the car with him, although there was no information released regarding her sobriety at the time of the accident.

Although no one was seriously injured in this particular incident, the situation might have been much worse if the ambulance had been occupied. Those injured in the accident may have lasting effects from their injuries, may also have a hard time paying medical bills that result from the accident, and money may be awarded to them if they decide to file a lawsuit against the driver for his part in the accident.
