Wisconsin work accident kills 65-year-old construction worker

Police officials in Altoona recently released a statement detailing a tragic construction accident that claimed the life of a Wisconsin worker. The fatal work accident took place on a worksite where an apartment complex was in the process of being built. A 65-year-old construction worker suffered a serious fall from a second story onto a slab of concrete. His wounds ultimately proved to be fatal.

The fatally-wounded man was a resident of Eau Claire. Emergency responders transported him to the Mayo Clinic Health System, also in Eau Claire, but the man succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the fall. Authorities have identified the worker who lost his life and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is said to be investigating what factors may have caused or contributed to the deadly accident.

Workplace safety is often an important issue when it comes to the Wisconsin construction industry. State and federal guidelines mandate the standards that must be adhered to when workers are constructing structures like the one involved in this specific case. There is not yet any word on whether the company responsible for building this apartment complex was following all appropriate safety requirements at the time of the fatal fall.

A work accident like this that claims a construction worker's life can have devastating consequences for family members left behind. Too often, a family depends upon that slain worker's income in order to meet the basic necessities of life. This is one reason why Wisconsin law provides such dependent relatives the chance to file for workers' compensation survivor benefits. A successful claim for such benefits can often provide for children or other dependent family members who are already mourning a loved one's death and shouldn't have to worry about providing for their basic needs, as well.
