Wisconsin two-car crash injures three

A two-car accident in Wausau injured three people and knocked out power to hundreds of west side residents, according to authorities. At approximately 1 p.m., a station wagon was rear-ended by an SUV at around 11th Avenue and Bridge Street. The impact was powerful enough to crush the rear of the wagon all the way up to the back tires. The SUV continued on, hitting a road sign and a small tree, finally hitting a telephone pole at the 10th Avenue and Bridge Street intersection.

A Wassau Fire Department Lieutenant reported that three people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Crews worked for several hours to restore power to hundreds of residents and several stoplights in the area of the auto accident.

Witnesses at the scene stated that the SUV appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed, maybe 70 mph, when the collision occurred. Authorities, however, could not confirm the speed at which the SUV had been traveling. The Bridge Street speed limit is 25 mph. Police are continuing the investigation and are waiting on blood draw results to see if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.

In most states, a rear-end accident is considered to be the fault of the driver at the back. Drivers and passengers involved in such accidents may sustain serious neck and back injuries. An experienced Wisconsin personal injury lawyer might be able to help those accident victims pursue financial compensation. Since fault may be easy to prove in a rear-end accident, a lawyer might be able to settle a claim outside of court. Negotiating a settlement may be preferable because it avoids a lengthy trial, allowing clients to collect any compensation that they may receive more quickly.
