Wisconsin boy injured in dog attack

Two Wisconsin men were in the middle of a conversation when a Shepherd-retriever mix canine suddenly attacked a three-year-old boy. The boy, who is the son of one of the two men, was severely injured by the dog attack. The dog is owned by the other man. Police were called to the 900 block of Marquette Street at about 7:00 pm after the dog bite incident occurred. At the scene it was determined that emergency medical treatment was needed after the dog had bitten the young boy in areas of his head.

The boy was transported to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital but was then taken to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa. Although the boy's injuries were severe, they were not believed to be life-threatening. The dog that attacked the boy was located.

It is not uncommon for children to be injured in dog attacks. Curious and unfamiliar with the threat of a strange dog, children are less able to protect themselves from aggressive animals. With the help of a qualified personal injury attorney, the parent may have a claim against a responsible dog owner. This may be very important if the child suffers a serious injury that requires expensive medical treatment and possibly permanent scarring. Compensation in dog bite cases might include all medical bills, pain and suffering, lost wages and the cost of reconstructive surgery, if necessary.

Regarding the liability of the dog owner, a victim of a dog bite may be able to collect compensation even if the dog has not demonstrated a propensity for violence against people before. Furthermore, in the state of Wisconsin, it is also possible to claim an award of for double the damages if it can be shown to the court that the dog has attacked people in the past.
