Wisconsin driver charged with four homicide counts

In July, four Wisconsin friends were driving around after attending a dance, visiting a bar and sharing drinks together. The driver's truck flipped as it sped over a hill and crashed into trees on the side of the road. Two female passengers in the truck were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident; a male passenger was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

Following an investigation, the police have determined that the driver was operating his truck under the influence of alcohol, and the truck was travelling at a speed of 94 mph just seconds before the crash. The investigators were able to determine the truck's speed from evidence in a module of the truck's airbag system.

Based on a breath test, which was taken at the scene, the driver had a blood alcohol content of .148 percent and has been charged with two counts each of homicide by the use of a vehicle while under the influence and second-degree reckless homicide. If convicted of all four counts, the driver faces up to 25 years in prison and a maximum fine of $100,000.

Fatal accidents can be the result of negligence by a stranger or even a friend or acquaintance. In both cases, when a family has been impacted by the wrongful death of a loved one, it might be helpful to contact a attorney with experience in personal injury or wrongful death cases. Consulting with an attorney can't bring back the loved one, but the attorney could help the surviving family members determine if compensation is available for their loss of companionship or future wages.
