Employee of dealership dead after motorcycle accident

A 20-year-old man who was riding his motorcycle when it collided with a van on Sept. 13 has died. The man was an employee of the Porcaro Ford Dealership in Mount Pleasant. The man suffered from serious injuries after the motorcycle that he was riding ran into a van that may have turned in front of it in the parking lot of the dealership around 1:30 p.m.

The driver of the tow truck that was behind the van said that he didn't think the driver of the van even saw the motorcyclist. He stated that it seemed to him like the driver of the van was watching another vehicle to ensure that it didn't back up as the van was pulling into the parking lot. The motorcycle came from somewhere in the back of the parking lot when the van allegedly turned in front of it. A witness on the scene of the fatal accident stated that although he didn't see the accident, he helped lift the van off the motorcyclist, who suffered from severe head trauma.

The 54-year-old driver of the van was not injured in the accident. Additionally, police officers said that it is unlikely he would be issued citations in connection with the accident since it occurred on private property. However, he could have to face a civil lawsuit from the deceased motorcyclist's surviving family members. They could attempt to seek compensation for his wrongful death that would help them pay for his hospital bills and burial expenses as well as help make up for his lost earning power.

A personal injury attorney might be able to help the family members determine whether they have sufficient evidence to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Then, they might be able to help them negotiate a fair settlement with insurance companies.
