Motorcyclist dies in two-vehicle crash in Wisconsin

An accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle occurred on Sept. 1 in Baraboo. A Jeep rear-ended a motorcycle on Steinke Road at around 9 p.m. The motorcycle had stopped at the intersection of Gall Road and Old Lake Road.

After hitting the motorcycle, the Jeep ran off the roadway and continued on until it ran into a driveway retaining wall. The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were both thrown from the bike during the fatal accident. They were airlifted to the University of Wisconsin Hospital. The driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries on Sept. 2, whereas the passenger was still receiving treatment at last report. The driver of the Jeep was charged with suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.

The driver of the Jeep could also be facing a civil lawsuit in addition to the criminal charges. The family of the deceased motorcyclist might be psychologically scarred or traumatized from the death of their loved one. Some states allow families to seek compensation for their emotional trauma in a wrongful death lawsuit.

Additionally, the deceased motorcyclist may have been a provider for his family, which could mean that his death has left a financial strain on them. Therefore, his family could choose to ask for compensation for his lost earning power. They could also ask for reimbursement for his hospital bills and burial expenses. A personal injury lawyer may be able to help surviving family members seek compensation for their loved ones' deaths. Not only might they assist them with preparing their claims, they might also help them negotiate settlements for them.
