Wisconsin construction worker suffers serious work injury

Roadway construction is a hazardous job that contains the real possibility of serious injury. One Wisconsin man has just experienced one of the worst case scenarios for receiving a work injury. He was the victim of being at the wrong place at the wrong time when a car was propelled into him after having been struck by another vehicle.

The accident happened when the first vehicle, driven by a 67-year-old man slowed when he entered into the work zone that allowed heavy equipment access to the roadway. As he reduced his speed, he was then rammed into from the rear by a semi-truck driven by 50 year-old man. The impact caused the first car to enter the oncoming travel lane.

Once the van went into the opposing traffic lane, it smashed into yet another vehicle. That vehicle then spun around and went off the shoulder of the road where the flagman had been standing. The worker was injured severely enough to require air transport to a hospital equipped to handle major trauma. The driver of the first car also required medical treatment.

The drivers of the other two vehicles involved were not injured in this accident. Wisconsin officials are still investigating the crash. The construction worker who has suffered the work injury may have many months of recovery ahead of him. While he is unable to work, he will most likely apply for and receive workers' compensation benefits that will provide him and his family monetary assistance for the medical expenses and lost wages that will accompany this terrible accident.
