Woman kills man in her 2nd fatal crash

A man was killed in a deadly car crash in central Wisconsin on Sept. 13. A 23-year-old Amherst woman was charged with DUI in the accident when officials found that her preliminary blood alcohol content was 0.15, which is almost twice the legal limit. This was the second fatal accident that the woman had been involved in.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Portage County, the 51-year-old victim was a passenger in the truck that was hit. His son was driving out of a driveway parallel to Highway 54, east of Stevens Point, when the accused woman struck the vehicle. There were three other passengers in the woman's vehicle. One of them asked her to slow down before the crash occurred, but the driver failed to do so. None of them were seriously injured. The woman was taken to Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah after the crash. According to Sheriff's officials, she has been charged with homicide by drunk driving in the death of the Lanark man.

According to prosecutors, she had been involved in a previous fatal car crash in Woodstock, Illinois. In 2012, she was charged with failing to report a fatal accident when a man on the roof of a vehicle she was driving fell off and died. She served jail time for that accident.

A personal injury attorney may be able to help the family members of the deceased man determine if they have sufficient evidence to file a wrongful death lawsuit. An attorney may be able to examine the accident and help figure out an appropriate amount of compensation for final expenses as well as for pain and suffering.
