Audi issues recalls for shattering sunroofs

Wisconsin owners of Audi vehicles might become worried when they hear that German car maker has issued a recall on some of its vehicles after they received reports from consumers of their sunroofs unexpectedly shattering. The recalls affect 2013 and 2014 A8 premium luxury sedans as well as the S8 versions, approximately 1,120 vehicles in total.

Shattering sunroofs pose the potential to cause a car accident, especially if they shatter while the car is in motion. Not only could the glass shards from the shattered roof injure the driver and passengers, the shattering itself could distract the driver, leading to a greater chance of an accident occurring.

This problem with sunroofs is not completely new one, though. In earlier years, consumers have experienced issues because of poor design and installation, leading to water leaks and shattering. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into Kia because of reports of a similar issue concerning sunroofs shattering. The investigation into Kia's Sorento models could affect almost 65,000 vehicles. So far, the federal government has received 15 reports of the Kia Sorento's sunroof suddenly shattering. The problem seemed to begin last year when Hyundai recalled approximately 13,500 of its vehicles for the sunroofs shattering.

Audi said that it will make all repairs to the recalled vehicles at no cost to the consumers. Although no crashes have been reported in connection with the issue yet, if people are injured in accidents because of suddenly shattering sunroofs, they might be eligible for compensation for their injuries. Personal injury attorneys might be able to help them file a lawsuit against the automaker.
