Hyundai recalls minivans in 20 states

In 20 states, Wisconsin included, Hyundai has put out a wide-reaching recall for 15,500 Hyundai Entourage minivans. The recall is only effective for vehicles that were built between Feb. 16, 2006, through June 30, 2008. The National National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration has made information pertaining to this recall available on its website.

Apparently, Hyundai became aware of a potentially dangerous defect; the front lower control arms are at risk of breaking due to corrosion from exposure to road salt and water. As the coldest time of the year approaches, owners and drivers of this vehicle could take extra caution and follow the recall instructions. The NHTSA commented on the potential dangers that drivers could face on the road and said that a break of the front lower control arm can lead to a driver losing control of the vehicle.

A Hyundai representative recently stated that there have been no injuries, crashes or fatalities associated with this defect in the Entourages. Beginning in December, Hyundai Entourage owners are asked to bring their vehicles in for repairs. Hyundai dealers have been told to either make the defective part corrosion-resistant or replace the part entirely.

If someone has suffered injuries as the result of a car accident involving a vehicle that is known to have defects, he or she could choose to file a claim for compensation. From a legal standpoint, the auto manufacturer could be neglecting its duty of care, which is a legal obligation that requires persons and corporations to take reasonable measures in order to avoid the potential for harm. The failure to provide the duty of care is an important factor in proving the company's negligence.
