Wisconsin tanker accident leaves 3 dead

Wisconsin drivers are well aware of the dangers inherent on the road, especially in the colder months. Snow and ice can be a factor in an accident, but often weather is only one of the contributing causes. Speed, careless driving and lack of attention to the road are increasingly dangerous during hazardous conditions. Police are still investigating the cause of a truck accident on a Wisconsin road to determine if weather or any other issues played a role.

The accident occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 14 in the early afternoon. Police arrived at the accident scene after someone called 911. An officer with the sheriff's office stated that three people died and that both vehicles had occupants that were killed. There was no information regarding whether additional passengers had been hospitalized as a result of the accident.

A car and a tanker carrying propane were involved in the crash. The accident required the attention of a hazmat crew from the county. The sheriff's office spokesman stated that it was snowing at the time or around the time of the accident. He could not say whether snow was a factor in the accident.

When accidents involve trucks, and it is determined that causation lays in part with the truck driver, legal processes can become complicated. Depending on injuries suffered by those in other vehicles, personal injury claims may be possible. As many truck operators are involved with owner/operator companies, as well as contracting companies who purchase freight services, there can be questions about who is liable for damages. Understanding all applicable legal rights, researching insurance coverage and filing a suit naming all appropriate defendants is one way injured individuals or victims' families can seek compensation.
