Drunk driver accepts plea deal after causing fatal accident

It is scary to think that even if you follow all the rules of the road and are a safe and cautious driver in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, you are still at risk for being involved in a car accident. This is due to the fact that no matter how safe a driver you are, you still share the road with other motorists who may not take their driving responsibilities as seriously as you do. There are numerous drivers who operate their vehicles while distracted or after they have drank alcohol or are otherwise impaired.

This was the case for a driver who caused a fatal car accident in Kildare, Wisconsin on October 16, 2011. The man’s blood alcohol level was measured at 0.104 around an hour after the crash took place.

The man was on his cell phone as he was driving southbound on County HH near the 55th Street intersection. As he began going around a curve he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into another car that was traveling northbound. The driver of that car was a 20-year-old woman from Mauston. She was transported to the hospital, but died two days later.

The drunk driver was charged in March 2012 with causing the accident. The 32-year-old man recently accepted a plea deal where he pled no contest to second-degree reckless homicide and homicide by use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration. In exchange, a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle was dropped.

The family of the woman killed in this accident may wish to consult with an attorney about their rights to compensation for the death of their loved one.
