Wisconsin car accident leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

A Wisconsin woman who died as a result of a car crash on Feb. 19 has now been identified by authorities. According to reports, the head-on car accident occurred around 2:28 p.m. on State Highway 44, when a 1999 Lincoln Continental and a 2005 Saturn collided. The Lincoln Continental was apparently driving south and the Saturn was headed north when the accident occurred. According to authorities, the Lincoln ended up rolling over as a result of the crash and came to a stop upside down on the shoulder of the road. The Saturn ended up in a ditch.

The crash ended in one fatality -- the 70-year-old female passenger of the Saturn. The woman apparently died at the scene of the accident. The 72-year-old driver of the Saturn and the 25-year-old driver of the Lincoln were both taken to Theda Clark Medical Center with serious injuries. The 25-year-old was taken by Flight for Life, but both are expected to live.

Authorities are not yet sure what caused the accident, and the investigation is ongoing. So far it appears that neither speed, alcohol nor weather played a role in the incident. The highway reopened about three hours after the crash. Investigator are currently attempting to reconstruct the events of the crash to determine exactly what happened. If one of the drivers is found to be at fault, compensation may be able to be awarded to the other injured party.

Serious car accidents can result in serious medical expenses and time taken off of work. For those injured in these types of accidents, understanding what compensation may be available and how to deal with the insurance companies involved can be one less thing to worry about during this difficult time.
