Dog attack victim awarded $250,000 for injuries

Dog owners in Wisconsin are legally responsible to care for their pets and prevent them from harming others. Nevertheless, pet owners are not always reliable in this regard. Adults and children often suffer injury from a dog attack as a result of an irresponsible dog owner, and when this occurs, victims are entitled to justice and restitution.

Recently, a woman succeeded in obtained a favorable award for her dog bite injuries in court. The plaintiff in the case had been violently attacked by a dog in July 2012, while visiting the home of the defendants. Allegedly, the woman was in the living room of the home, when the couple's Rottweiler rushed upon her suddenly and bit her on the leg. The dog continued to bite the woman for several minutes while the owners of the dog tried to pull it off of her. Eventually, the dog owners were able to save her from the animal but not before she was seriously injured.

The judge presiding over this matter decided to award the woman $250,000 for her dog attack injuries. Part of this money was intended to pay for her medical care following the attack. She required costly treatment and several surgeries at the hospital in order to recover from her wounds.

Although this dog attack occurred in another state, Wisconsin dog bite victims can also seek restitution under the law if the dog attack occurred as a result of another person's negligence. Restitution may include compensation to pay for medical care, time spent unable to work and emotional distress. Also, in the unfortunate event that an individual is killed by a violent animal, family members of the victim may wish to pursue a wrongful death action relating to the loss of their loved one.
