Wisconsin traffic fatalities down last month

Although automobiles are a typically safe way to travel in Wisconsin, accidents do occur. They may be caused by negligent or distracted drivers, intoxicated drivers, bad road conditions or a number of other factors. When car accidents happen, there is the potential for serious injuries and death.

Last month in Wisconsin saw the sixth safest month of March since the modern highway transportation system came about at the end of World War II. According to preliminary statistics gathered by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 33 people were killed in 30 car accidents last month. This was down from 35 traffic-related deaths in March 2013, but up four from the average for March for the last five years. The deadliest March was in 1970 when 99 people died in car accidents.

The number of fatal car accidents is down so far this year from previous years. For the first three months of this year there were 89 people killed in car accidents. This is down from 104 deaths during the same period of time in 2013 and six less than the state’s average over the last five years.

Authorities would like to see this trend continue and the number of traffic fatalities continue to lower over the coming months.

If your loved one died as a result of being involved in a traffic accident in Wisconsin, you may wish to speak with a personal injury attorney. A lawyer can review your case and advise you on your right to compensation for the death of your loved one.
