Alleged DUI auto accident causes critical injuries in Tomahawk

A head-on collision has resulted in critical injuries along Country Highway A, close to where it intersects with Highway 8, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. An alleged drunk driver caused the auto accident, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on a recent Monday.

Both drivers suffered critical injuries in the accident and required transportation to a hospital for treatment. Emergency crews had to extract one of the driver's from his mangled automobile. No reports have been released at this time on the current condition of the injured drivers.

Authorities allege that two northbound cars were approached head-on by a southbound vehicle, which had crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic. One of the northbound cars managed to avoid the collision, but the oncoming car hit the other vehicle. Police had to close both directions of traffic along Country Highway A following the crash while they gathered evidence and cleaned up the accident site. The road was not re-opened for several hours. Police are hoping that the driver who evaded the accident will contact them to assist their investigations.

Fortunately, most auto accidents -- whether they are caused by a drunk driver or not -- do not involve serious injuries to the drivers and passengers involved. However, in the case that a drunk driver does cause injury and property damage to individuals involved in a Wisconsin auto accident, those individuals may have the option to seek financial compensation through a civil court action. Indeed, personal injury claims arise out of many different circumstances in this state, with motor vehicle accidents being one of them. When such an action is successfully navigated, injured parties can obtain money to help pay for their medical care, compensation for property damage and compensation for permanent disability and other damages arising from the incident.
