Wisconsin motorcycle accident leaves 1 with brain injury

Summer is prime motorcycle riding time, and that means drivers everywhere should take extra caution when turning or changing lanes. Motorcycles can be difficult to spot in any conditions, and riders who operate the bikes at excessive speeds or weave in and out of traffic up the risk of a serious crash.

Because a motorcycle offers little to no protection to its rider in the event of an accident, these types of accidents often result in life-threatening injuries or even fatalities. Brain injuries are also unfortunately common, especially in cases like the following where the rider was not wearing a helmet.

An accident involving a motorcycle and a car has left one person in serious condition with a head injury. According to reports, the crash occurred in Appleton, Wisconsin, at the intersection of E. Glendale Avenue and N. Meade Street on May 21. The crash apparently happened around 11 a.m. close to Appleton Medical Center.

According to police, a 38-year-old man was riding his motorcycle north on N. Meade Street, while a 94-year-old woman was driving a car headed south. The woman was apparently trying to turn onto E. Glendale Avenue when the crash occurred.

The impact of the crash threw the 38-year-old man off of the motorcycle. According to reports, he suffered serious injuries to his body and a severe head injury. It was not clear what his current condition was, but officers said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The 94-year-old woman was apparently unharmed in the crash. At the time of the reports, the investigation was still being conducted by officers, and neither party had been cited.
