Work injuries on Wisconsin farms

Those that work in the agricultural industry may well be aware of the risk that certain farm machinery poses to employees. Wisconsin grain bin entrapments are an ongoing problem that continues to cause multiple death and work injuries to farm employees every year. A worker that has suffered serious work injuries from the safety negligence of their employer may want to expose the incident and prevent future damages.

Entrapment in a grain bin can injure or kill a worker by compressing and covering the victim with the product inside the bin. The quick and dangerous movement of grain can lead to crushing or suffocation of a person who has become lodged inside. There is a necessity for proper safety training and protective equipment to be provided to workers.

Recently an elderly man fell into a grain bin while working and was not wearing a safety harness. Emergency personnel that arrived to assist were eventually able to free the man by using metal panels and a specific technique. When an incident does occur, rescue equipment can make the difference in saving a life; an employer that has chosen not to supply emergency grain bin rescue procedures may cost a worker their life.

An employer that does not equip its staff may create a hazardous work environment that can lead to serious work injuries and even a fatality. Certain simple and inexpensive tools can be used in a rescue, but an employee may not be aware, due to a lack of education or training. A Wisconsin victim that has been hurt while on the job may seek help in collecting all available benefits to help cover expenses and ensuring they receive the time necessary to heal mentally and physically. In addition, the families of fatal victims are typically entitled to death benefits under the state-supervised workers' compensation insurance program.
