How drivers can avoid being in truck accidents

In a prior post, we highlighted a number of dangers that come with driving during the winter. Even though weather conditions have improved in the last few weeks, winter is still coming and the snow and ice dangers will be here eventually.

However, the elements are not the only dangers that drivers face. Semi-trucks are also a danger to drivers. With these vehicles being the largest on the road by far, they can cause quite a bit of damage to passenger cars in an accident. With that, drivers must be vigilant around these behemoths of the road. This post will highlight a few helpful tips that can keep drivers safe.

Avoid the “No-Zones” – If a truck driver cannot see you, chances are that you are invisible to him or her. This is when a truck’s lane changes can become hazardous to a driver. Because of this, drivers should stay clear of the areas directly behind a truck, or beside it. These are a truck driver’s blind spots.

Avoid abrupt lane changes – If you suddenly change lanes directly in front of a truck, this could be a recipe for disaster. Because of their size and weight, semi trucks need some additional distance to come to a stop, so avoid abrupt lane changes that could put you in position to be rear-ended.

Try not to drive between trucks – Not only is driving between semi trucks scary, there could be severe consequences if one of the trucks encounters a problem (such as a tire blowing out).

Following these tips may not only keep you safe, it may preserve your right to compensation should you be injured in an accident.
