Safety tips for driving on wet roads during spring

It's good to have an actual spring. Compared to last year, it seemed like good weather did not come around until May. But spring is always unpredictable in Wisconsin.  We can have picture perfect weather on one day, and a complete deluge the next. Because of this, drivers must be ready and wary of how to drive in wet conditions in the same way they must navigate snowy roads.

With that said, we feel it helpful to give our readers some helpful tips that can keep them safe on wet roads.

Keep a safe distance - It may be obvious that drivers shouldn't tailgate, but sometimes it is lost that a safe distance should be expanded when roads are wet. Not only does road spray affect your sight lines, but the extra space can buy you some much needed time in the event of an emergency.

Keep proper tires on your car - Your tires should be in good condition so that your handling will not be compromised. After all, the tread on your tires is geared to divert water and keep your car from hydroplaning.

Limit distractions - Just like texting and driving while on snowy and icy roads is a bad idea, doing the same on wet roads is equally dangerous. If you have to communicate with someone while on the road, pull over and take a few minutes to answer. Or better yet, just wait till you get to your destination.

The preceding is not legal advice. If you have questions about your rights and options after a car accident, an experienced personal injury attorney can help.
