Fall driving hazards and how to avoid them

Now that September is drawing to a close, you probably have noticed a change in the air; especially during the morning hours. Indeed, fall is now here, and this means that days will be shorter and the humidity associated with summer will no longer be around. Because of the change in conditions, drivers will have to adjust as well. After all, the hazards that drivers may have encountered during the summer are different in the fall.

This post will highlight a few of these hazards, and what drivers can do to avoid being in a car accident in Wisconsin

Watch for migrating animals – Fall is a time for deer and other animals to move from one feeding ground to another. These trips commonly cross major roads and two-lane highways. With that said, drivers must be aware of crossing animals in the early morning hours and at dusk.

Foggy conditions – The cool morning air, combined with the warmth from the ground can make for challenging conditions when fog occurs. Indeed, drivers must slow down so that they have the proper time to react to these conditions. Also, drivers should not use their high beams, since they will likely not be effective in seeing further down the road.

Sun glare – For drivers travelling east during the morning hours, the angle of the sun could be troubling. While sun shades can provide some relief, keeping windows free of dust and debris can help in preventing temporary blindness. This can also help in seeing hazards before it is too late.
