How to avoid the dangers of fog

As you have probably noticed in our region, the coming of fall brings a change in air temperatures and new blankets of color among trees. What may be good for fall pictures and new fashion may not be for driving; especially during the morning hours where the cool air may become a hazard.

Indeed, drivers have to be careful when behind the wheel, but when weather conditions make driving difficult, they have to be especially cautious. It is commonly reported when rain, snow or ice  are to blame for accidents, but it is surprising how many crashes are attributable to fog.

Drivers may not be familiar with advection fog, but it is dangerous because of how one stretch of road may be completely clear, while another nearby stretch may be marred by dense fog. This may create a tricky gauntlet for drivers who may have a tough time slowing down quickly after hitting a fog bank.

Because of this, drivers must use reasonable care while on central New York roads. This means that they must adhere to speed limits, limit distractions and stay off their cell phones. If a driver fails to use such care, and an accident occurs, the offending driver could be held liable for the crash.

Essentially, people who are injured in a car accident caused by a negligent driver may be eligible to receive compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost wages and rehabilitation costs.

If you have questions about your rights and options after a car accident, an experienced personal injury attorney can help.
