Helpful tips for parents choosing car seats

While many of our posts focus on how to avoid being in an accident, we find that it can be just as helpful  for our readers to have posts on how people can walk away from accidents. This is especially helpful when we talk about protecting children.

Indeed, drivers and passengers should wear their seatbelts. Studies show that people in accidents are more likely to survive a crash when they are buckled up. The same applies for children in car crashes. Kids are much more likely to avoid injury when they are properly secured in a car seat. With that, this post will provide some helpful tips for parents who are in the market for a car seat.

Make sure you have the right size seat – More car seat manufacturers want to sell consumers on “one size fits all” seats; so as the child grows, parents can stay with one seat. can grow with the child. However, the child must still fit the seat at the correct stage. If the child does not fit correctly in the seat, he or she could be injured in a crash.

Pay attention to safety ratings – If you only thought cars received safety ratings, think again. The  Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also provides ratings for car seats of all kinds.

Try to avoid hand-me-down seats –Having a seat donated to you obviously is a cost saver, but you should not sacrifice your child’s safety to save money. If a donated seat is damaged, you may not want to use it.

Be aware of recall notices – We commonly hear about  cars that are subject to recall notices, but parents should pay attention to recall notices dealing with car seats. .
