Winter weather isn't over just yet...unfortunately

April is supposed to be the gateway to spring. After all, the weather is getting warmer and the remnants of winter are nearly gone. However, in this region we are not immune from the occasional spring snow that drives us crazy.

In fact, a recent weather event brought snow and ice to several counties in our region last week. I 43 and I-41 were closed because cars were sliding into ditches on Friday in Brown County. Authorities found that drivers were not slowing down and were losing control of their vehicles when they attempted to stop or avoid other accidents.

While the snow has melted and is not expected to return, the cold morning temperatures can still make some roads treacherous. Because of this, drivers must remain vigilant for black ice; thin sheets of frozen morning dew that can cause drivers to lose control when they come in contact with it. Indeed, daytime highs are expected to rise into the high-40’s and low 50’s, but overnight lows still fall below freezing.

As such, drivers must continue to employ the lessons they have learned throughout the winter months. Essentially, they must slow down as driving conditions deteriorate. But even though the weather is improving, some roads may still be treacherous due to freezes; especially those in predominantly shaded areas.

If you have been involved in an accident involving black ice, or a negligent driver, you may be entitled to compensation. An experienced personal injury attorney can evaluate your case and advise you of your rights and options.
