Deaths in Wisconsin car accidents often caused by drunk driving

Families must often deal with the loss of a loved one. No matter the circumstances, the loss of a family member is a tragedy. However, when deaths occur in car accidents because of drunk driving, the losses become even more devastating. A Wisconsin family recently experienced such a loss.

A 29-year old Lake Geneva woman was struck by a southbound vehicle when crossing the intersection of Edwards Boulevard and State Highway 50 on foot. The accident occurred around 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, according to the Lake Geneva police. The woman died on Thursday, Dec. 29, as a result of injuries suffered from the accident.

The driver of the vehicle is a 49-year old man from nearby Hebron, Illinois. He is a trustee on their village board and is also a Lake in the Hills police sergeant. The driver was arrested shortly after the accident and was charged with causing injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle. The accident is still under investigation by the Lake Geneva police and the Wisconsin State Highway Patrol.

No formal charges have been filed at this time. However, the driver must appear before a Walworth County circuit judge on Jan. 18. Evidence that the driver was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the accident is being analyzed by the state crime lab.

Families in Wisconsin have the right to file a claim against those who have harmed loved ones in car accidents through negligent actions. A claim won't change what happened, but a successful result could help the family feel vindicated against those they believe are responsible for the death of their loved one. Family members often seek guidance from attorneys with experience in person injury law to help them achieve a successful outcome.
