Wisconsin motorcycle accidents: 1 dead following crash

Motorcycles share Wisconsin highways with a variety of vehicles every day. Many cyclists ride safely alongside cars, vans, trucks and tractor-trailers across the state without incident. However, motorcycle accidents can occur when safety rules and other laws are not followed. A recent incident claimed the life of a Cornucopia rider.

On the evening of June 10, a 64-year-old man was riding his motorcycle southbound on a state highway, according to reports from the Wisconsin State Patrol. Another man was traveling northbound in his car on the highway. The northbound man, a Bayfield resident, was making a left-hand turn off the road when he struck the motorcycle.

Reports state that the motorcyclist died from injuries suffered in the accident. The driver of the car was treated for injuries at the scene of the crash. He was released by emergency medical personnel.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. The Bayfield County Sheriff's Department is also participating in the ongoing investigation. Police personnel believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident.

Should alcohol be proven as a factor in the crash, the driver who allegedly caused the accident may be considered negligent in his behavior. Wisconsin families that have lost loved ones in similar motorcycle accidents due to the negligent behavior of others may choose to file a wrongful death claim. While a successful wrongful death lawsuit cannot bring someone back, a monetary award can help defray the costs from an unanticipated funeral and other expenses. An experienced personal injury attorney can explain the process and assist families as they proceed with litigation.
