Wisconsin motorcycle accidents: 2 injured by alleged drunk driver

Motorcyclists travel on Wisconsin roads and highways every day. While motorcycle accidents can occur, it is particularly troubling when those incidents happen due to another person's negligent actions. A crash involving a car and two motorcycles recently occurred on the Fourth of July.

According to a report from the Racine County Sheriff's Department, a 46-year-old woman was driving her car near the entrance to a local park. The report states that the woman failed to yield the right of way to two motorcycles traveling eastbound. Both motorcyclists were injured when their bikes struck the car.

One motorcycle was driven by a 62-year-old man from Chicago. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. A 55-year-old Kansasville woman was the driver of the second motorcycle. She was initially transported to a local hospital for minor injuries, though she was later flown by emergency air transport for treatment at another facility. The motorcyclists were not wearing helmets, according to police.

Police officers suspect that alcohol was a factor in the collision. The driver of the car was arrested for two felony counts of operating while intoxicated causing injury and two counts of failure to yield the right of way causing injury. The woman is being held in the Racine County Jail.

When negligent behavior such as drunk driving leads to motorcycle accidents, victims may choose to file a personal injury lawsuit. An experienced Wisconsin attorney can work with victims to gather all pertinent information and determine how best to proceed. A successful lawsuit could provide an award to victims that would compensate them for hospital costs and other expenses they may incur. An award may also include damages for the emotional toil and suffering an accident would have on a victim.
