Animal bites committed by exotic pets

Children around the world dream of owning an exotic pet. As they grow older, many realize that owning an exotic pet can be both complicated and sometimes dangerous. However, sometimes a person is able to acquire one of these animals, and many, including owners as well as other people, may not be aware of how to handle these animals. Unfortunately, this can sometimes result in serious animal bites. Wisconsin authorities recently seized a supposed wolf hybrid after the animal apparently bit a child.

In Wisconsin, it is illegal to own a wolf-dog hybrid without a permit and within the city limits. The owner of the animal was known to have possessed dangerous or exotic animals in the past. He has been cited with multiple violations, including not having the animal licensed, keeping more than two dogs and keeping an exotic animal.

Authorities seized the animal. They are holding the animal under a 10-day rabies quarantine, as required by law. Even though a nearby wildlife preserve has confirmed that the animal is a wolf hybrid, authorities are awaiting DNA test results to confirm the dog's lineage. It has not yet been determined if the animal will be euthanized or if another action will be taken.

Many people do not believe that their pets are capable of biting someone. Unfortunately, owners sometimes discover that the opposite is true, especially in cases where a person owns an exotic pet. Victims of animal bites in Wisconsin could benefit from speaking with an attorney. They may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses or other damages caused during the incident, particularly since Wisconsin is a strict liability state when it comes to dog bites.
